South Africa Electricity Company Adopts Kirisun DMR Trunking Solution

Background 

ESKOM is the seventh largest electricity producer and ninth largest electricity seller in the world, with the world's  largest dry cooling power station, supplying 95% of South Africa's electricity consumption and 60% of Africa's electricity consumption. The company needed to replace several out-of-date radio networks with a single modern digital  system. Kirisun supplied a DMR Trunking solution, which provides unified indoor and outdoor communications across  widely varied terrain and harsh environments.

 

Challenge 

  • Delivering a unified, reliable and secure DMR network across the region’s varied environments to support  excellent indoor and outdoor coverage.

  • The radio equipment was old and difficult to operate and maintain.

  • Stability of system: Improve the system stability to ensure the 24hours communication service.

  • The company placed particular emphasis on network coverage, redundancy and high availability.

 

Solution 

Based on the analysis of the ESKOM’s requirements, Kirisun offered the following solution: 

  • Build 2 DMR base stations in the command center of the company. 

  • Kirisun provided 2000+Pcs Intrinsically safe DMR radios to all the staff. 

  • The radio was equiped with 4W RF power to have a larger coverage compared with other terminals.

Kirisun’s trunking base station and site design solutions deliver a high level of reliability and wide coverage to  ensure that the overall system is efficient, stable and easy to maintain. Due to the high-power feature, it requires  fewer base stations to cover the same area. Therefore, less infrastructure investment is required.
